Casa Monti x Michael McGregor

When Hospitality Becomes a Living Work of Art

From 17 April to 15 October 2026, Michael McGregor takes over one of Casa Monti 36 rooms and suites, transforming it into an Art Suite - a fully immersive space reimagined as a living artwork.

Far from a traditional exhibition, the suite becomes a true artistic environment, where every detail, from the walls to the textiles, reflects the artist’s world. Guests are no longer mere spectators, but fully immersed in a creative universe that is constantly evolving.

This approach intentionally blurs the lines between art, design, and hospitality, turning a stay into a sensory and intellectual experience.

Michael McGregor: An Artist of Movement and the Moment

Known for blending impressionism with fauvism, Michael McGregor builds his work through travel. For nearly a decade, he has developed a distinctive practice by drawing on hotel stationery, capturing the essence of the places he passes through.

This spontaneous gesture has become his signature, combining structure and freedom in a deeply instinctive expression. Now based in Athens, after living in cities such as Mexico City, Los Angeles, Paris, and London, his work is shaped by an ongoing dialogue with place.

Rome as a Source of Inspiration

McGregor’s residency at Casa Monti is deeply rooted in the city’s cultural richness. His new creations draw inspiration from iconic landmarks such as Villa Medici, Palazzo Venezia, and Centrale Montemartini.

He also explores the ancient roots of the Italian capital, weaving in references to Greco-Roman mythology and the poetry of Horace. Some works even echo archaeological discoveries, such as a Roman mosaic frieze dating back to the late Republic.

The result is a perfect balance between modernity and Roman heritage.

An Immersive and Interactive Experience

In this Art Suite, every detail is designed to engage guests. Custom wall panels structure the space, while patterns and textures extend across furniture and fabrics.

Other highlights include:

  • a bespoke backgammon set designed by the artist,

  • sketchbooks and personal objects,

  • a new collection titled ROMA AMOR.

Together, these elements create a unique atmosphere, offering guests the opportunity to step into the world of an artist in the midst of creation.

A New Vision of Luxury Hospitality

With this residency, Casa Monti reinforces its vision of the hotel as a true cultural destination.

At a time when travelers seek more authentic and meaningful experiences, this initiative offers an immersive stay that goes far beyond traditional hospitality.
